36 Clicks of Mount Fuji is a photographic reinterpretation of Katsushika Hokusai’s Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji (c. 1830–32).

Following the geographical traces of the original series, Julien Rocheblave returned to the sites from which Hokusai depicted the mountain nearly two centuries ago. Rather than reproducing the compositions, the project examines how these landscapes have been transformed — and how Mount Fuji continues to inhabit them.

Bringing together thirty-six contemporary views and ten additional images, the series establishes a dialogue between photography and ukiyo-e, permanence and transformation, historical representation and present-day Japan.

The project exists as a photographic series, an artist book and a documentary film.
